Bartending is an accessible profession for someone who cannot afford the time or expense of a college degree. Training is relatively brief, and jobs are plentiful in most areas.  It’s a salary plus tips job, which means that you can earn more if you have a great attitude and are very good at what you do.

Bartending is also an excellent choice for someone who needs late hours. Maybe you need to be home with kids in the morning, and need to find work in the evening. What a great option! You’ll need some kind of training course to get started as a bartender. Most bars and restaurants only hire experience, trained mixologists. Typical bartender classes are a total of forty hours, divided evenly between theory and practice.

Basic Bartending Knowledge:

  • Mixology is the art of mixing cocktails.  You need to know, not just the ingredients, but the preparation techniques: From how to frost a glass to how to create the perfect lemon peel. You need to know the right glass for the right drink, and the difference between “shaken” and “stirred” (in case a superspy comes into your bar!).  Naturally, a mixologist also understands the different alcohols in their pure, unmixed, forms.
  • Wine Training gives you the basics of understanding wine. A sommelier course is a very different and more complex experience, but you should, as a bartender, understand how to judge the “nose,” color, and body of a variety of wines. You should know what different kinds of wine are, and what different concepts (dry, fruity, vintage) mean.
  • Beer Knowledge: You should know the different kinds of tap and bottle drinks (ale, lager, stout) and you should know how to serve each properly.
  • Bar Equipment: Know your jigger from your salt rimmer!

Cleanrooms are Used for Scientific Projects

One thing about mixology: It is kind of a science. The right mix of the right ingredients creates the right outcome.

We have observed last year on our research that most of the experiments were conducted in the cleanrooms. The cleanrooms are basically those environments that have pollutant free settings and atmospheres. Many of us also required cleanroom wipes  when we were conducting the experiments. The experiments were new to us as it was our first time to get exposed to manufacturing of semi-conductors. I personally noticed few things over there as well, and inquired from my supervisor about those things. The first one on the line was the different kind of furniture, which was known as cleanroom furniture. As per my supervisor, the furniture is easy to maintain and clean apart from the fact that it also produces very less particles as compared to the others.
